LOOKING FOR: Children from 8 up.

POSITION: Unpaid. This year, the Company particularly seeks dancers 12 and up with pointe training for expanded roles in the production.

DETAILS: Candidates are asked to arrive one half hour before the audition time. Auditions generally last an hour and a half. The choreographers may add a callback audition on Sunday, September 14

BACKGROUND: The Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff is a full-length ballet set in the beautiful surroundings of Rosecliff mansion on Bellevue Avenue in Newport. The children's cast works closely with the professional performers of the Island Moving Co. The Providence Journal has hailed the Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff as a "breakthrough in dance theatre."

Performances run from November 28 to December 5. Auditions will be in the form of a ballet class. All children should have ballet training and be dressed appropriately for ballet class. For more information about the auditions and other IMC activities, call 401 847-4470.

We're interested in seeing people with professional-level training in any form of action including dancers, acrobats, athletes, gymnasts, martial artists, etc. Must have comfort with physical heights, impact, falls, and extreme aerobic activity. Trampoline experience is a plus.

POSITION:
Part-time, paid positions with the company. A minimum of a 2-year commitment is required.

Employment will start immediately after the audition process. STREB is offering an initial contract from Sept. 26, 2008 - June 30, 2009 with a minimum of 28 weeks of employment during that contract period.

STREB provides full health insurance coverage for all of our performers.

Contracted performers are also encouraged to teach class at our Brooklyn Space the STREB Lab for Action Mechanics (S.L.A.M.).

ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Since its inception in 1985, STREB has traveled, artistically as well as geographically, from the heights of the experimental dance world to the cutting-edge of popular entertainment.

The company has performed in theaters large and small and served as artists-in-residence at the world's top art museums, including Los Angeles MOCA, the Wexner Center in Columbus, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. They've also appeared in numerous free public performances in New York City.

STREB's company members have accrued endless art-world awards. The action-engineers of STREB are top-notch performers, with years of training in ballet, modern dance, martial arts, acrobatics and circus skills.

When they're not touring the world, STREB company's home is SLAM, the STREB Lab for Action Mechanics, in Brooklyn. At SLAM, they rehearse, hold classes for children and adults, and perform works-in-progress for the community. SLAM is open to the public and everyone and anyone is encouraged to attend rehearsals.
