Review: More New Than Old Johnette Rodriguez Providence Phoenix 3/11/09

Festival Ballet Providence's popular series, Up CLOSE, on HOPE, showcases exciting mixed repertory works in an intimate studio setting. Up CLOSE on HOPE performances offer the chance to see thrilling, original dance, to meet the dancers, and to mingle with the evening's choreographers.

This program has received rave reviews and includes three world premieres: Viktor Plotnikov's Atom a study, Gianni DiMarco's Con/Fused, and, FBP company dancer Mark Harootian will premiere Partitas Connected, set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Boston Ballet's Boyko Dossev will also be contributing a RI premiere: Over Again, a stunning look at the psychological effects of warfare and torture on a soldier. Colleen Cavanaugh will present 321 Ligeti, a new take on an old dance. The pas de deux from the ballet classic The Sleeping Beauty, Misha's Playing by Ear and FBP Ballet Master Yves de Bouteiller's Starry Night complete the program.
