Rhode Island College is passionate about the arts and their committment shows in the high quality artists they bring to the state. Throughout the years they have showcased almost all the big dance companies and many of the up and comers. The 2008/2009 season features dance as The Song and Dance Ensemble of West Africa (African dance), Compania Flamenco Jose Porcel (flamenco), Off the Beaten Path (tap), and Complexions (ballet). The related art of acrobatics is represented by The National Acrobats of China.

Traditional rhythms, instruments, folklore and mythology of West African nations paint a colorful and exciting picture of the oral and musical rites of these diverse peoples. This exciting ensemble of musicians, singers and dancers will perform traditional Malian music mainly from Peuhl, Bambara and Mandingo. While the style is West African authentic, a modern edge makes them as hip as any international big band.

Off the Beaten Path was created under the direction of award-winning choreographer Drika Overton and composer Paul Arslanian, in collaboration with renowned tap dancers Brenda Bufalino and Josh Hilberman.
