All are open to the public; prices are kept low and DA members receive discounts. Tap Dance Day 2003 TBA October 2003 Location: TBA Price: Free Tap Dance Day has been postponed from April 27th to a new date sometime in October. Please check back for more details as they become available. Come dance with fellow tappers from all over Rhode Island. We'll be dancing Shim Sham and Rhythm & Swing routines. Project Motivate April 27 130pm - 430pm Radisson Airport Hotel 2081 Post Road Warwick RI Price: $50.00 Project Motivate is an information-packed seminar for Dance Studios which provides solutions for the problems every studio face. Rhee Gold is a master in getting you excited about building your studio, school and energizing you with new and different ways of promoting you and your work. The workshop was about professional development of schools, owners and teachers. Rhee is passionate about teaching dance. Each attendee presented problems he/she faced and Rhee discussed ways to solve them. Attendees left with many ideas and a big smiles on their faces. Schools and organizations with representatives in attendence were Center for the Arts, Dance Forum, Kingstown Dance and Gymnastics, Rhode Island Ballet Arts Academy, The Studio, Roger Williams Middle School Dance Program, the University of Rhode Island Physical Therapy Department as well as independent teachers Louis Moniz and Carol Sickul New Perspectives - A Performance Arts Medicine Seminar February 23, 2003 Physical Therapy Bldg Independence Way University of Rhode Island Kingston RI 02822 Price: $65.00 This day-long seminar's goal was to promote a safer environment (and longer careers) in the Performing Arts and to increase awareness of the medical and scientific information available to the Performing Arts. Recent research and some of the most up-to-date therapeutic approaches for the prevention and treatment of movement injuries were covered with talks, participation and demonstations by some of New England's best including physical therapists from Boston Ballet and Dr.Lyle J. Micheli, founder and director of the world's first sports-medicine clinic for children,. Topics included the career-saving treatment of a snapped Achilles tendon at the Boston Ballet, how to evaluate dance students, an introduction to Body Therapies, Performance Psychology, and more. New Perspectives was so well received that DA will be running a similar seminar in 2004.
