ANNUAL AUGUST CLIFF WALK
ANDREA
Andrea Rizzo was a gifted dancer and a special education teacher in Narragansett Rhode Island. She dreamed of the day she would become a dance therapist and be able to give children with cancer and disabilities the gift of dance, but was killed by a drunk driver on May 19, 2002 as she returned home from a dance performance at The Broadway Dance Center in New York City.

Her dream lives on through the success of the Andrea Rizzo Dance Therapy Foundation, set up by Andrea's family and friends in memory of a young woman who had a dream. With the support of many, the Foundation has been able to make her dream a reality.

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
The 6th Annual Andrea Rizzo Memorial Foundation Cliff Walk-a-thon and Dance Celebration will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at Rodgers Recreation Center, Salve Regina University, Newport, RI. As always, the event will benefit The Andrea Rizzo Dance Therapy Program for Pediatrics at world renowned MEMORIAL SLOAN-KETTERING CANCER CENTER, the nation's leading cancer research hospital. The Foundation also provides dance therapy to children with special needs in Public Schools.

This year we are asking those who understand the power of dance and the special needs of children to consider forming TEAMS to walk 2 miles in beautiful Newport:
-in memory of a loved one
-OR in honor of a worthy cause
-OR in honor of someone you know who has faced a challenge or survived an illness
-Optional: Your team can ask for pledges (more info will be provided)
THE TEAM THAT RAISES THE MOST MONEY (Minimum $500) WILL BE AWARDED $500 to be used to benefit youth in any way (ie. scholarship for graduate, sports equipment, dance tuition scholarship, donation to your favorite youth charity, etc.)

The Foundation's goal is to raise $10,000 to help children with cancer and special needs through the powerful impact of dance therapy. We hope you'll want to help.

Each team can be made up of friends, dancers, students, teachers, faculty, parents, families, co-workers, etc. and will pick a special name of its own...ie: 'Wendy's Walkers'...possibly in memory of Wendy OR 'Studio One's Dancers for Donna' in honor of Donna's fight for survival or...any other worthy cause. The whole team will be given an event T-Shirt with their team name on the back. The charge will be $10 per team member. The opportunity for a group to walk together for a loved one or common cause will be powerful !! The more teams we have the more powerful it will be!!

(Individual walkers are always welcome, too.)

The closing ceremony will include dance performances by RI DANCE COMPANIES!!

You may have participated in this now popular form of fundraising for another worthy cause. THIS EVENT LASTS ONLY A FEW HOURS. It's a meaningful way to remember or support someone/something special and at the same time help children with cancer or special needs....and possibly win the BIG PRIZE to benefit youth in your own way while benefiting The Andrea Rizzo Dance Therapy Program for Pediatrics at the world renowned SLOAN KETTERING CANCER CENTER at the same time.

If you would like more information on forming a team or participating, please contact us.
